Career Mentoring

Guidance on building a racing career including sponsorship, networking, and series selection.

What to expect

Career mentoring goes beyond on-track coaching to address the business and strategic side of building a racing career. Sessions typically happen as one-on-one consultations (in person or virtual) where your mentor helps you evaluate your goals, build a realistic plan, and navigate the complex landscape of racing series, sponsorship, and team relationships. Topics include series selection based on your budget and goals, sponsorship proposal development, budget planning, media and self-promotion skills, and team networking strategies.

Your mentor draws on their own experience in professional racing to help you avoid common mistakes: spending money on the wrong series, approaching sponsors without a clear value proposition, or neglecting the business side of a racing career until it is too late.

Who it is for

Career mentoring is for aspiring professional drivers, young karters moving into car racing, or funded amateur racers who want to transition to higher levels of competition. It is also valuable for drivers who have the talent and budget but lack the industry connections and business acumen to advance their career effectively.

What you will learn
  • Realistic assessment of your strengths, weaknesses, and competitive position
  • Series selection: which championships match your budget, car, and skill level
  • Sponsorship strategy: building proposals, approaching potential partners, and delivering value
  • Budget planning: understanding the true cost of a racing season including hidden expenses
  • Media and personal branding: building a public profile that attracts sponsors and teams
  • Networking within the racing industry: how to build relationships with team owners, engineers, and series officials
Pro tip

Treat your racing career like a business from day one. The drivers who attract sponsorship are the ones who can articulate what they offer to a partner, not just what they need from one. Your mentor will help you build that value proposition.
