HPDE Overview

The GT350 is the greatest track car Ford has ever made for the street. The 5.2L Voodoo flat-plane crank V8 revs to 8,250 RPM — the highest-revving production V8 in American history. It produces 526 hp with a top-end rush that makes other V8s feel lazy. The sound at 8,000 RPM is otherworldly — a flat-plane wail that sounds more Ferrari than Ford. The GT350's chassis is based on the S550 Mustang but extensively revised. The MagneRide dampers are excellently tuned, the front suspension uses unique geometry for improved camber gain, and the massive Brembo brakes handle track abuse admirably. The Tremec 3160 manual is the only transmission option — no auto, no PDK, just a manual gearbox and your right hand. The GT350R is the ultimate expression — carbon fiber wheels save 60 lbs of unsprung weight, and the ride and handling improvements are transformative.

Weaknesses

Why People Love It

The GT350 Voodoo V8 at 8,250 RPM is one of the most incredible engine experiences in any production car. It sounds like nothing else, revs like nothing else, and makes you feel like a hero every time you approach the redline. The car was designed for the track and it shows.

Why People Hate It

It is heavy. The weight tax shows up in brake bills and tire bills. The Voodoo engine, while magnificent, consumes oil and has had quality issues on early production cars. And the GT350R's carbon wheels, while phenomenal, are eye-wateringly expensive to replace.

Best For

Flat-plane crank enthusiasts, Ford track day enthusiasts, manual transmission purists, and anyone who wants the most characterful V8 currently available.

Not Ideal For

Budget-conscious drivers, anyone who needs an automatic, or people who cannot tolerate the weight penalty.
